Here at Kybotech, we’re always on the lookout for new talent – for people and personalities that gel with our company ideals and are hungry for success. So to understand what life at Kybotech is like, we think there’s no better way than to talk to some of the real people who work there.

Check out their answers below to see if Kybotech is the right fit for you!

Which brand do you (primarily) work on/for?

All of them but with an aim to be working mainly on GBD (Garden Buildings Direct) and BillyOh.

What’s your role at Kybotech?

I’m a senior customer service advisor.

The Customer Care Team

Can you briefly explain what your role involves?

Assisting customers with any issues they may have with their order or any enquiries they may have surrounding their order. Helping Laura (my manager) with scheduling, metrics and reports for the care team and sales team.

Also, training new staff on GBD, BillyOh and Bobbin and assisting the team with any issues with orders and complaints they may be struggling with. And a whole lot more – but I’ll keep it brief!

“I feel as though I’ve quickly become a valued member of the team”.
Miya

How long have you worked at Kybotech?

It’ll be 5 years in June.

And how big is your team?

So our care team is comprised of about 14 members based all over the place.

Can you explain “a day in your life” as a senior customer service advisor?

No two days are ever the same! My workday never passes without a new challenge or learning something completely new. As I help with multiple sides of the business, I’m always facing new customer enquiries. There’s always something new a customer needs help with, whether it’s a customer I’m helping directly or a customer I’m helping another care agent assist.

Ad what gets you out of bed and to work in the morning?

The fast-paced environment with constant stimulation. The new challenges each day brings.

“I’ve developed a professional personality that allows me to do my job effectively every day”.
Miya

Constant Improvement

So how have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

I’ve really enjoyed working from home. I’ve found that I have a much better work-life balance and I feel more productive as I don’t have the everyday distractions an office can bring.

What’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one moment – I’m proud of many over my time in the company. I started in the sales team in 2017 and I feel as though I’ve quickly become a valued member of the team. I now have experience in sales, care, cancellation across the GBD, BillyOh and Bobbin teams.

I feel as though I’m trusted by my manager and have opportunities to develop and expand my personal skills. I would say my career progression and the trust my management have in me to take on the new challenges and help with new projects such as with new acquisitions, and my recent promotion to “Senior” are also proud moments.

charanjeet-dhiman-mHusyBu4bxM-unsplash

I’m also very proud of the fact that I pushed myself to get involved in more aspects of the business, such as understanding Consumer Law to help our customers further. This made me realise I really enjoy the legal understanding and pushed me to start working towards a Law degree in my spare time.

That’s incredible! And what’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

With the new responsibilities I now have after the Bobbin acquisition, I want to work on my personal development with better time management.

So how have you seen the company grow since you’ve been working here?

When I started the UK sales team was a new development only making outbound calls and we didn’t have a UK care team at all. I’ve seen these teams both come into their own and grow so quickly. We’ve also developed new products to keep up with customer demand and introduced new options such as pressure treated garden buildings.

Skills (and hiccups!)

What useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

My entire work ethic has been developed through working here, as I started working here at 18. I was young and keen to learn but didn’t really have much “work ethic” given that I’d just left school. I’ve developed a professional personality that allows me to do my job effectively every day.

Can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!)

There is a CCTV clip of me falling completely off a chair in the office which is 100% worth a watch! (I improved by getting a new chair, of course).

Kybotech Logo

Why did you decide to apply to Kybotech – What was it about the role that seemed attractive?

The advert itself stood out – I remember the first line being “do you think you could sell ice to an eskimo?”. I wanted a new challenge – I’d worked in a few different sales jobs and wanted to try a different category of sales. Since the challenges never stopped coming, I stuck with it!

What’s the best thing about working at Kybotech?

Flexibility, great colleagues, and always something new to get your teeth stuck into.

How would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

Challenging, rewarding, stressful 😉, diverse, interesting.

Any advice for potential candidates?

If you’re someone who wants to work on bettering yourself, if you’re willing to put the work in and ready to receive constructive criticism in a constantly fast-paced environment with a new challenge every day, then Kybotech is the place for you.

Check out their answers below to see if Kybotech is the right fit for you!

Thanks for joining us Ben – and department do you work in?

I work in buying/purchasing.

And which brand do you (primarily) work on Ben?

Mainly for Garden Buildings Direct.

Can you explain your role at Kybotech?

I’m a buyer (so all things purchasing, procurement and product sourcing) – I’m a graduate trainee at the moment.

“I find it’s always good to bounce new ideas, recommendations and practices off of each other”.

Ben

Can you briefly explain what your role involves?

Sure – so my role for the company involves purchasing any necessary equipment and the raw materials and stock we use on a daily basis to manufacture the goods we produce on our site in Worksop.

Alongside this, I try to identify any potential new products through market research and contacting overseas suppliers to expand our current product range and then implement them into our retail businesses.

“Communication is constant and everyone in the company is accessible, friendly and always willing to help”.

Ben

Life at Kybotech

How long have you worked at Kybotech?

Just short of 7 months now.

How big is your team/immediate department?

It’s hard to put down an exact number within the team as we’re constantly working with members from other sectors to gain advice or help from someone who has more expertise in a certain area/topic.

But I’d estimate there are 3 core members within the department with whom I have daily communication and then another 4-6 Kybotech colleagues.

And can you explain “a day in your life” at the company?

Well, starting off with a coffee is a must. 😂

From then on, I work with our on-site team to get a better idea of our current stock and raw material levels. Due to our high production volume, we always require stock to facilitate regular production. So my role is to contact the suppliers and arrange the purchase and procurement of any goods and services required for production and our colleagues.

This can range from the glazing for our garden buildings to the PPE for our on-site staff and the services that ensure we comply with health and safety standards.

Other tasks include marketing research on potential future products for the company that we can use to expand our existing product range and portfolio. This includes research and analysis on products through key factors such as sales, demand and the quality of the products.

From this work, I’ll then make contact with a range of international suppliers to try and identify high-quality products which we could implement into our retail businesses.

What gets you out of bed and to work in the morning?

Again, definitely coffee! Ok, but really – I always enjoy learning and developing. Since joining the company I’ve found myself learning something new and developing new skills on a daily basis – whether it’s Excel/Google sheets skills or even something simpler like communication and presentation skills.

Goals and Achievements

And how have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

I’ve actually found that I’m more fresh-faced and energised when working. Cutting out the commute and getting that extra rest before work means that I’m more energised to complete the work I do on a daily basis.

A concern I first had was if I was stuck – would there be anyone to help me? However, communication is constant and everyone in the company is accessible, friendly and always willing to help.

“I could ramble on all day about the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired through joining the company”.

Ben

What’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

Ok, so originally, I started off in sales and was always proud to make a sale (particularly the first one)!

But for the role I’m currently in I’d say seeing the impact of the work I do being implemented. So, this could be the company adding new products that I’ve researched to our range. I take enjoyment from the thought that products we’ve worked on to add to our range will be enjoyed and used by a range of consumers from the comfort of their homes!

studi hero grey
The Studi Garden Room, just one of many new products

What’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

I’d say I definitely want to help expand our product portfolio further. I also want to keep learning new skills that I can put into practice. It’s also exciting to see the recent acquisitions of companies we’ve made and it would be interesting to get to know the ins and outs of these and work closely with some of the new employees.

I find it’s always good to bounce new ideas, recommendations and practices off of each other.

How have you seen the company change/grow since you’ve been working here?

I’d say the company as a whole has a mindset on growth. Whether this be through acquiring new companies or using new services/applications that can help improve the work we do. Each person in each department is always adding new ideas to improve and grow the company – this includes positive changes to our websites and operations and even designing new products.

Skills and Challenges

What useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

Wow – I could ramble on all day about the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired through joining the company there are so many! Coming out of education, you lack the fundamental knowledge of E-commerce, communicating with suppliers and even an understanding of products. Since joining Kybotech, I’ve fully developed my skills and knowledge on all of these.

Can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!) How did you grow/improve from this?

Oh yeah – there’s many! But it’s all part of the learning and development process. I’ve had instances where I’m contacting suppliers on the status of an order when it’s already been delivered (in some instances over a week ago!).

To prevent this in the future, though, I now keep track of all orders made and their status. I’ve found Google Keep is a great tool to help make notes and monitor the work I do.

And what was it about the role at Kybotech that seemed attractive?

Coming out of education I found myself a little lost for what I actually wanted to do. Kybotech appealed to me as you get to learn a lot of the aspects of the business and how it’s run. This was key to helping me decide what works best for me, what I’m good at and what I enjoy doing. Alongside this, you’re delegated a good amount of ownership and responsibility for the work you do and are not micromanaged in everything you do.

What’s the best thing about working at Kybotech? Is the company working on improving anything that doesn’t work so well?

The company is always investing. If they deem something will help grow, improve and expand the work that we do they will facilitate the budget to do so.

How would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

Opportunity to grow and learn.

Any advice for potential candidates?

Go for it! – If you like I was and find yourself stuck on what you want to do, this is the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and help develop and advance your career. You’re also constantly learning and developing and everyone in the company is approachable and friendly – offering expertise if you’re stuck or need a hand.

Thanks for your time – and if you want to follow in their footsteps, click to apply here.

Check out their answers below to see if Kybotech is the right fit for you!

Hey Eli, let’s start with – which brand do you (primarily) work on?

I mainly work on Garden Buildings Direct.

What department do you work in/what’s your role?

I work in the design department as a product designer. So I design any and all new wooden buildings for the BillyOh/Garden Buildings Direct brand.

Cool, and how long have you worked at Kybotech?

It’s been 2 Years, 4 months now.

A Day In Eli’s Work Life

So what does “a day in Eli’s life” look like?

So I regularly carry out product research – whether that’s checking existing products or looking for ideas on places like Instagram and Pinterest.

From there, I start 3D modelling of multiple ideas, communicating with the factory to ensure that products are efficient to produce and answering any questions about new or existing products from the sales, marketing, and care teams.

I also plan for physical prototypes to test manufacturability, and to test products from the customer’s perspective.

“In the space of about 2 weeks, I managed to take a product from early design up to being on sale”.

Eli

Wow – and what gets you out of bed and to work in the morning to do all of that?

I’d say the exciting prospect of being able to design something entirely new. Being able to communicate with the factory directly also means there’s really no limit to what sort of wooden buildings we could make, so every project brings new and exciting things to design (as well as new challenges!).

How have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed it actually. I’m able to start the day far more relaxed and focused (I had a very long commute prior to WFH!). I can also make the space my own to really maximise productivity with everything I need on hand.

“This last year’s been so collaborative, I’ve been able to work with so many great people all over the company”.

Eli

Eli’s Very Own Designs

Nice, and what’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

Creating our Nightjar Garden Bar has to be a high point. It was only a small product, but it came when morale was quite low – everyone had just started WFH and missing the office environment was starting to get us all a bit down!

But in the space of about 2 weeks, I managed to take a product from early design up to being on sale. Since then it’s gone on to sell over 1000 units! So even though it’s small it has to be one of my proudest achievements.

BillyOh Nightjar garden bar
Eli designed the beautiful Nightjar Garden Bar

That’s awesome, and what’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

Honestly, we’ve got so many new products planned for this year, it’s hard to pick which one I’m looking forward to the most! But my overall goal is mainly just to surpass myself every year – for this year’s new products to outsell last year – that would be my goal.

And have you seen the company change since you’ve been working here?

Definitely! At first work from home was quite daunting, but I think everyone adapted so quickly, especially in the ways we all communicated. It’s so good I honestly don’t think I would go back.

This last year’s been so collaborative, I’ve been able to work with so many great people all over the company. And as the company grows, the more people there are to work with. It’s been great to be able to get specific help from someone dedicated to each job role.

“It helps everything to run so much more efficiently having a great team that never have any problem working together or just helping each other out”.

Eli

What useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

A far greater understanding of design for manufacture and being able to work directly with the factory has been such a great opportunity. I’d say every product designer should work like this at least once

Being able to be involved with your own designs as they go to manufacture and learning to adapt quickly to any potential problems – to think on your feet – is such a great learning opportunity.

On the flip side, can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!) And how did you grow from this?

Honestly, every product that wasn’t the last one! With every new product, I learn something new, some knowledge or understanding that would have been so helpful 6 months or a year ago 😂

I look back at some of my earliest products and can’t help about how much quicker or more efficiently I’d be if I could do it all over again.

laptop hands working

Why Kybotech?

Well, it’s all about growth Eli! So why did you decide to apply to Kybotech in the first place?

I’ve always loved to work with my hands – anything DIY has always interested me. So when I saw I could design wooden products like sheds and summerhouses, it immediately piqued my interest.

I think I must have designed at least 4 sheds before I started just to put in my portfolio because I wanted the role so much! When I visited the offices and site it was great to meet such a tight-knit team – everyone was happy to work together. That collaboration was another big draw.

And what’s the best thing about working at Kybotech? Is the company working on improving anything that doesn’t work so well?

That same collaboration I saw when I came to interview – well, even working from home hasn’t changed that. There are so many people here, with so much knowledge whether they’re new or old to the company.

Whatever I’m working on I can email someone in the factory to make sure a new product can be made efficiently. I can call up the care team to get customer feedback on our existing products. I can speak to the marketing team if they’ve seen some exciting new products on social media.

And I think it helps everything to run so much more efficiently having a great team that never have any problem working together or just helping each other out.

How would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

Every day’s a new lesson!

Any advice for potential candidates?

I’d say always do your research, it’s great to see someone come into an interview with any prior knowledge, even if it’s just from 5 minutes of Googling before the interview.

Seeing someone show up who takes initiative, is naturally curious, and genuinely wants to understand their work – that’s a big part of a successful candidate for me.

Thanks for your time – and if you want to follow in their footsteps, click to apply here.

Morning Christian, so which brand do you (primarily) work on?

So my work is focused on Garden Buildings Direct.

And what’s your role at Kybotech?

I’m a 3D visualiser for New Product Development (NPD).

And what does that involve exactly?

I produce 3D visuals of all types of structures for the website and marketing purposes.

Cool, and how long have you worked at Kybotech?

I’ve worked here for one year now.

And how big is your team?

I work within a team of three people.

painted designs

A Typical Day

So, can you give us “a day in your life” at Kybotech?

Sure. So first, I receive the base engineering models, then I apply realistic materials, like additional ironmongery and interior props etc. Those are then imported into larger exterior scenes based on the requirement for each type of building. Then the work begins to build an environment to best suit the product type. Then some additional studio-style renders are also part of my daily tasks.

Sound like you have your plate full – what gets you out of bed in the morning?

Strong Coffee! 😂

And how have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

I’ve actually worked remotely for the past 4 years, so I’m well-equipped for it.

“I applied to Kybotech because I believed I could make a real difference”.

Christian

What’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

Every time I produce work that I feel is better than the last.

The Year Ahead

What’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

I think my goals for the year ahead would be: improving the realism in my work, and definitely honing my modelling skills.

Sounds good. Can we ask, how have you seen the company grow since you’ve been working here?

Well, I’ve seen the website gradually fill with my work (and that feels good).

sip-interior-officem-anglex200301 (1)
The renders and environments for the new Studi Garden Room

And any useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

Yeah – I’ve had to develop a workflow for multi-sized structures within a single environment. So I’ve streamlined the process to reduce the amount of input needed at render time. This is really invaluable in being time efficient!

Sounds like you’re on top of it – but can you remember any memorable facepalm moments at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!)

When you’re dealing with a lot of 3D assets there’s plenty of scope for the odd mistake 😑. A levitating chair only spotted at the last minute was a popular one!

“I get to work on so many different types of garden structure and build lots of new and exciting environments”.

Christian

Why Kybotech?

Why did you decide to apply to Kybotech – what was it about the role that seemed attractive?

I applied to Kybotech because I believed I could make a real difference and improve the feel of the website with my work.

What’s the best thing about working at Kybotech? Is the company working on improving anything that doesn’t work so well?

The best thing (from my perspective) is that I get to work on so many different types of garden structure and build lots of new and exciting environments. Each one helps me improve a different aspect of my skillset and I try to make each one a little better than the last.

And it looks like it’s working! Quickly –  how would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

Perfect environment for personal improvement.

Nice, any advice for potential candidates?

Work hard and reap the benefits!

Check out their answers below to see if Kybotech is the right fit for you!

Who’s Harry?

Hi there, Harry Patte-Dobbs.

And which brand do you (primarily) work on, Harry?

So I started off working solely on Garden Buildings Direct (GBD), but I then moved on to BillyOh, and even more recently to working on Bobbin and continue to “float” between the three.

Right, and what department do you work in for these brands?

I work within the marketing department.

And what’s your role at Kybotech?

I’m classed as an SEO Copywriter.

I’ve also learned a lot about time management, setting goals, and setting up and seeing a project through to completion”.

Harry

What Does He Do?

(If you haven’t heard of an SEO copywriter before, don’t worry. Harry, can you briefly explain your role/what it involves?)

Of course – so copywriting is the act of literally writing copy – words, sentences etc. for anything from a “strapline” for a page to product descriptions and blog posts.

Cool – and how long have you worked at Kybotech?

It’s getting on for almost 1 year now.

How big is your team/immediate department?

That’s a good question – it’s sometimes hard to pin down as there are definitely some people (like Sam in finance) who help out with marketing from time-to-time. I’d say the marketing team is fairly close-knit with regular contact between 3-5 probably people?

“A Day In The Life” of a Copywriter

Well, in the morning (especially at the start of the week), we/I run our regular reports in tools like Google Analytics – just to see that everything’s on track, to see if the changes we’re making are having an impact and whether there are any problem points.

Then, we’d usually have a quick meeting about these, come up with a plan for the week – broken down into to-do’s, expected outcomes etc. and then maybe go over it with, say, the head of IT or the CFO before getting into it!

And what gets you out of bed and to work in the morning to do all that?

I’d say probably solving anything that’s been bugging me overnight! Things like new little tweaks and changes to make our site better, make the user experience (UX) better and ultimately dominate SERPs (search engine results pages).

Otherwise, maybe a little bit of yoga and a coffee! 🤣

Harry, SEO Copywriter

Working Remotely

(How have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?)

Pretty good actually – I started in the fully-remote era as there isn’t a whole lot of need for me to be on-site (though I look forward to going at least once when things are back to normal!). Communication is regular and varied across different channels and I’ve got a nice little “home office” set up with a chair and a big desk.

What’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

Myself and my Marketing Coordinator (Holly) wanted to put more user-generated content front and centre on GBD. We realised (from the outreach that some of our social media team like Sarah had done) that loads of people used and loved our products and were happy to share their experiences.

So we turned their experiences into little slideshows and quotes featured on the page of the product they’d bought. This was especially cool because it generated good results measured against certain KPIs and became something that we rolled out (in various forms) across other sites and acquisitions.

Customer testimonials on Garden Buildings Direct

Skills and Experience

(What’s on your list to achieve over the next year?)

Visit the site in Worksop I guess, as I said. Find some sort of normality and stability versus the craziness of the last couple of years of flux, and definitely spread our tactics and content creation to more sites and brands under the Kybotech umbrella.

How have you seen the company change/grow since you’ve been working here?

Absolutely – I’ve helped to interview and seen some great new candidates hired, I’ve seen aesthetic changes to the E-commerce sites and even the acquisition of a new business – a lot has changed even in a year.

What useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

I had some knowledge previously but definitely got dropped in the deep end of the world of SEO/ Luckily, I think I just about managed to swim rather than sink! I’ve learned a lot more about how E-commerce businesses operate, how to use a CMS and edit and control products and content in a website’s backend.

I’ve also learned a lot about time management, setting goals, and setting up and seeing a project through to completion.

It’s fast-paced and high reward“.

Harry

Can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!) How did you grow/improve from this?

I seem to remember a time in my first month or so where, after reading up on forums and Youtube tutorials, I thought I’d found a simple solution to a recurring error and I ended up changing something that crash the blog for about 10 minutes before Hieu from IT came to the rescue!

Why Work at Kybotech?

(Why did you decide to apply to Kybotech – What was it about the role that seemed attractive?)

It seemed, from the interview process and job posting, that they were very receptive to candidates who were willing to work hard and learn. There was certainly an emphasis on company fit rather than experience alone – which is pretty rare even for graduate jobs.

It also seemed like there was a real opportunity to have some ownership over the work I was contributing (which has definitely been the case!).

What’s the best thing about working at Kybotech? Is the company working on improving anything that doesn’t work so well?

I’d say the fact that you do get to make real changes to the face of the company, websites, and ultimately success with the work you do. If anything doesn’t work so well everyone’s very receptive to breaking a problem down – jumping on a call of a Google Meet, coming up with a plan in 30mins and getting to work.

It’s fast-paced and high reward.

How would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

Growth – (and keep things simple)!

Any advice for potential candidates?

Weigh up your skills and consider that anything you don’t know can be taught. If you want to prove yourself as part of a team, are happy working to deadlines remotely and can motivate yourself – apply

Hey Sam, so which brand do you (primarily) work for?

I work almost exclusively on Garden Buildings Direct.

What department do you work in?

I work in Kybotech’s marketing department as a graduate copywriter.

A Day In Sam’s Life

Can you briefly explain what your role involves?

Sure – so, as a copywriter, I write “copy” – that means writing anything designed to attract customers to our brands! In my role specifically, I work closely with the Garden Buildings Direct Ecommerce site and blog – whether that’s tweaking copy on a product page or writing up a new blog post.

“For me, it’s that desire to create something that’s going to help out the brand”.

Sam

And how long have you worked at Kybotech?

It’s been just over 4 months now.

How big is the team in your department?

So we have about four or five members in our marketing and writing team.

GBD blog header
Head over to our blog to read some of Sam’s work

Cool, and what are some tasks that you regularly carry out?

Well, the start of the day (and the week) is always collecting data – tracking the progress of our products or our blogs to get the low-down on how everything’s going.

If there’s stuff to be fixed – then it’s all about looking at the specifics of the data, finding a solution, and making a plan ASAP! If things are all peachy then I’ll be following my content plan, maybe giving an older blog post a refresh or writing a completely new one.

“I’ve been able to track how my own improvements affect the site which is really gratifying”.

Sam

And what gets you out of bed and to work in the morning?

I just love to write – so for me, it’s that desire to create something that’s going to help out the brand. That could be something that draws in customers to the site, or helps out people who are in a pickle.

How have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

I finished my Master’s degree working remotely, so moving from working that way into a full-time remote job was honestly…pretty easy. I really enjoy the freedom of it – with no commute, I can get straight into the work in the morning and then relax as soon as I’ve finished in the afternoon.

And what’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

Seeing myself improve has been really nice to see actually! We take stock of how things like our own blogs are doing, so you can track how effective your plan and work has been pretty quickly. I’ve been able to track how my own improvements affect the site which is really gratifying. Hopefully, it continues!

“Kybotech put lots of emphasis on helping you learn and grow as a professional individual”.

Sam

What’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

Right now, I’d really like to try and add a bigger sustainability element to the blog and to the brands as a whole. We already work quite sustainably, reducing our emissions by working from home and in the way we make our products, so it would be great to highlight this and add sustainable and environmentally-friendly living into our identity more!

sustainability GBD blog
Sam’s a stickler for sustainability over on our blog

What useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

I’d say that adapting my writing to suit a consumer audience and learning how to use data analytics are the most important skills I’ve learned. But I’ve also learned an array of important professional skills relating to communication and teamwork that are really important.

Can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!) How did you grow/improve from this?

I mentioned learning how to use the data analytics services…well, I’ve had a few small facepalms where I’ve struggled with doing a specific little task that I’d been set for ages – only to learn that the solution was an easy one that I’d missed!

It just taught me to make sure I ask for help when I’m struggling or something seems confusing. My supervisor Harry has been really good at taking the time to help whenever I’m stuck on something which has been great.

Why Kybotech?

And why did you decide to apply to Kybotech specifically?

The freedom of working remotely was one big pull, but the other was that Kybotech put lots of emphasis on helping you learn and grow as a professional individual. I had some writing experience, but in this role, I saw the opportunity to really get stuck into the marketing side of things.

Any advice for potential candidates?

Have a think about what you want to learn to get where you want to be. Kybotech are great at facilitating learning and want to help you help yourself. If you’re comfortable working remotely, this could be the place for you.

Hi Alice, so which brand do you (primarily) work on?

Mainly on BillyOh.

And what’s your role at Kybotech?

So I’m technically considered a graduate copywriter as part of the marketing department. Although, in the last couple of months I’ve transitioned into more of a marketing executive role (basically, less wordy and more product-based!).

And what does your role involve?

So one day I will be naming incoming products, the next I’ll be trying to solve on-site hiccups – and some days will involve both.

“I like to start the day with a tick off the checklist”.

Alice

Nice, and how long have you worked at Kybotech?

I’ve only been at Kybotech for coming up to 4 months, but when I look back at the variety of projects I’ve worked on it feels much longer!

Life at Kybotech

So can you explain what “a day in your life” looks like?

Recently, I’ve spent a lot of time making sure our newest products look great when they arrive on the BillyOh website. This is the kind of task where you don’t see the progress until they’re online and so it’s so satisfying when all your hard work is revealed!

What gets you out of bed and to work in the morning?

It’s a struggle, I can’t lie 😂. But, usually, a cup of tea, a good podcast, and knowing that “past Alice” from yesterday has made the first task of the day something simple. I like to start the day with a tick off the checklist.

BillyOh electric patio heaters
Alice quickly learned how to build product pages from scratch!

How have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

So, because I graduated during the pandemic, I’d never worked a full-time office job prior to home working. So, it’s all been very smooth for me. I think the most important thing in any work environment is communication and I’ve never found that a problem here! I know that if I have a question or want some direction, help is only a phone call or an email away.

“I was sure that it was a company that would keep me learning and growing”.

Alice

How have you seen the company change/grow since you’ve been working here?

As I said, I’ve only worked here for 4 months. But, even in that time I’ve seen a change. In my final interview our COO, Chris, showed me Kybotech’s new acquisition, Bobbin. Since then, the Bobbin team have become part of our team, and the site is now one of the key focuses of our marketing plans.

Skills and Growth

And what useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

I’ve learnt so much! How to use different tools, lots about SEO, and even more about how a good business functions. And, I still learn new things every day. Literally, something new every single day – however small. It’s great!

Why did you decide to apply to Kybotech then Alice?

I think it was the focus on real responsibility. The application process for Kybotech was very explicit that the work would be challenging but rewarding, and I really valued that. I was sure that it was a company that would keep me learning and growing, and it has been!

Any advice for potential candidates?

Don’t worry about what you know and don’t know right now. When I first came to Kybotech, most of the programmes and terms that were being thrown around sounded like another language. So long as you show that you’re ready to work hard and learn, you’ll be a perfect fit for our team!

Thanks for your time – and if you want to follow in their footsteps, click to apply here.

Hi Glaiza, so which brand do you (primarily) work on?

Well, I actually work across both BillyOh and Garden Buildings Direct.

Ok, and what’s your role at Kybotech?

So I’m part of the sales department – but more on chat support. I’m in charge of answering queries over live chat, social media and I also answer the tickets for sales.

Sounds busy! And how long have you worked at Kybotech?

I’ve been with the company for 3 years now!

How big is your immediate department?

So we’re 5 people in sales.

“Failure is part of success”.

Working at Kybotech

Can you briefly explain “a day in your life” at the company?

The first thing I do when I log in is to check the messages on social media, answer them and then move on to the tickets. After that, I’ll focus on answering messages over the live chat as they come in.

How have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

At first, it was kind of awful! I just wasn’t used to it. I love being with my colleagues at the office, but now, after we learned how to communicate with each other remotely, it makes it a lot easier.

And what’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

Whenever a customer commends you for helping them with their query it’s a great feeling; and when our managers appreciate our efforts.

What’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

I want to learn and grow more at Kybotech and become the best version of myself.

And any useful skills that you’ve learned whilst working here?

Yep – I’ve learned how to multi-task and how to manage my time well every day.

Glaiza Thumbnail 200x200

Can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!) How did you grow/improve from this?

Oh yes! When a customer asks a specific question that I don’t know the answer to. But, I make sure to get in touch with my colleagues to ask them  – we always don’t know everything and there’s no harm in asking!

Life at Kybotech

What’s the best thing about working at Kybotech?

The people – they’re all so kind.

How would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

It feels like home.

Any advice for potential candidates?

Work hard, always gives your best and do what you love! And please don’t be afraid to fail, as failure is part of success.

Thanks for your time – and if you want to follow in their footsteps, click to apply here.

Hey Alfie, so what department do you work in?

I work within the marketing department and I’m part of the business graduate scheme.

Which brand do you (primarily) work on/for?

So, I initially started off by working primarily on BillyOh, however, due to our recent expansion and aims to increase our marketplace accounts, I’m now actively involved with working on the Garden Buildings Direct and Bobbin accounts to help to try to increase sales.

Alfie’s Role

Can you briefly explain what your role involves?

Yeah, my role involves uploading, editing and promoting product listings and content in an effort to achieve as many sales as possible throughout our marketplace accounts. So this is on both our Amazon and eBay sales channels.

“I was fully supported and welcomed by the team”.

Alfie

Cool, and how long have you worked at Kybotech?

About 8 months now.

How big is your team/immediate department?

Our marketing team currently has a group of 3-5 people with who I’m in regular contact with.

And can you explain some tasks that you regularly carry out?

Some of the tasks that I carry out each day include: processing Amazon reports and interpreting the sales and traffic figures on our product listings. I’m also involved in the promoting and advertising of our products to try to help encourage sales.

What gets you out of bed and to work in the morning?

The main thing which I’d say gets me out of bed is the sense of satisfaction that I feel when analysing the Amazon sales and reports and seeing that the products I’ve been actively working on are converting to sales and helping us achieve our targets!

“At Kybotech I’ve been able to considerably develop my knowledge and understanding”.

Alfie

So Alfie, how have you found working remotely during the past 1-2 years?

Having joined Kybotech from an office-based job I was, at first, quite cautious at the thought of working from home full time and potentially not getting sufficient training for my new job.

However, this has not been the case at all, and I was fully supported and welcomed by the team who provided me with all of the resources I could ask for and were happy to help. I am now fully confident within my role and do not feel restricted by being based off-site, as this doesn’t really affect my role.

Growth and Progress

What’s one proud moment you’ve had whilst working here?

My proudest moment usually involves seeing the achievement of sales on products. Especially ones that I’ve recently worked on in terms of product optimisation or also products that I’ve focused on trying to promote to encourage greater sales.

What’s on your list to achieve over the next year?

I’m aiming to grow our Amazon account and sales channel as much as possible by expanding the range of products that are available throughout our catalogue.

BillyOh Amazon
Alfie’s doing great work on our Amazon Marketplace accounts

How have you seen the company change/grow since you’ve been working here?

Even though I’ve only been at Kybotech since last year, we have grown massively in such a short period (and it doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon). And I’m excited and proud to be a part of it.

Our growth has involved continually expanding our product range and we’ve also acquired other businesses to join us along our journey.

“The best thing about working at Kybotech is the level of responsibility that we’re granted”.

Alfie

What useful skills have you learned whilst working here?

Although I was involved in dealing with the Amazon account in my last job, this was primarily as a Vendor. At Kybotech I’ve been able to considerably develop my knowledge and understanding of the Amazon marketplace and seller central account. And this is all from being granted the opportunity and responsibility to solely operate our Amazon sales channel.

Can you remember a memorable facepalm moment at work? (It’s ok we’ve all had them!) How did you grow/improve from this?

Nothing major springs to mind at the moment, but I’m hoping I don’t jinx myself here! I’ve obviously had the odd spelling mistake here or there or have accidentally mislabelled a product listing, but it’s all part of the learning and can be corrected before it becomes an issue.

Why Kybotech?

Couldn’t agree more Alfie. So why did you decide to apply to Kybotech?

As a Business Economics graduate, I’ve always had an interest in the analytics and interpreting of data. I also had previous experience working in roles where I was dealing with the Amazon marketplace.

I also like the idea and sense of achievement from sales and believed the role would give me the ability to combine all of these. I also wanted to apply some of the skills and knowledge I’d developed from my degree.

So is there a best thing about working at Kybotech? Is the company working on improving anything that doesn’t work so well?

The best thing about working at Kybotech is the level of responsibility that we’re granted and the fact that we’re actively encouraged to voice our opinion or ideas, no matter how daft they may initially seem!

I also find it quite cool to see the products that I work on within our marketplace catalogue actually on Amazon and available for sale.

How would you describe life at Kybotech in 5 words or less?

Effective, efficient, responsible, committed, dynamic.

Nice – and any advice for potential candidates?

If you’re looking to join a hard-working, committed team that’s aiming to succeed and successfully grow the business, look no further – see how you can use your skills to help and effectively contribute.
